Hannah Sanders & Liz Simmons: Hannah Sanders

Hannah Sanders - Singer, Guitarist, Songwriter

Hannah grew up in Norfolk England, a place where big sky, soil, and sea meet. Hannah's music is inspired by these natural forces– permeating her songwriting and her deep passion for the British ballad tradition. She comes from a family of traditional singers and musicians, and her mum is a historian and lay expert on English traditional balladry. Hannah travelled and sung across Europe with her family group, The Dunns. The family performed at traditional folk clubs and festivals (Cambridge Folk Festival, Whitby Festival, Beyond the Border) singing alongside folk luminaries Frankie Armstrong, Julie Felix and Lindisfarne. Hannah also performed for English Heritage, singing in ancient castles and historic sites around England. Hannah's particular interest as a songwriter and a "songer", a singer of the big ballads, is magic and taboo, drawing on her expertise as a cultural anthropologist. Hannah plays DADGAD guitar and a Ron Ewing baritone dulcimer. When she is not singing with Liz or working on her solo project and songwriting, Hannah is a teacher and writer.
